IIDA Asia Pacific Design Awards Now Open


IIDA has announced the opening of the IIDA Asia Pacific Design Awards, a new international design competition established to honor innovation and the highest level of design excellence in Interior Design/Architecture throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Submissions are now being accepted in 10 categories. Submitted projects must have been completed between Jan. 1, 2011 and June 30, 2013, and be located in one of the eligible countries in the Asia Pacific region. (Participating design firms may be located anywhere.) Deadline for entries is Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013.

2nd Annual IIDA Healthcare Interior Design Competition OpenHealthcare-img_DM

The 2013 IIDA Healthcare Interior Design Competition, aimed at honoring and celebrating outstanding originality and excellence in the design and furnishings of healthcare interior spaces, is now open. Submissions are being accepted in a number of different categories. The competition is open to participants worldwide. Projects submitted must have been completed between Jan. 1, 2011 and March 31, 2013. Winning entries will be published in the October issue of Healthcare Design magazine, the publishing partner for the competition, and featured on the IIDA website,

IIDA Unveils “The Value Manifesto”

At the recent Chapter Leaders Council (CLC) at IIDA Headquarters, IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP, debuted a new book, The Value Manifesto, to help Chapter Leaders and Members explain the value of IIDA Membership. The slim volume offers a concise-but-thorough overview of what Membership can mean for design professionals and other industry members. Content-rich and full of illustrations, images and quotes to inspire the reader, The Value Manifesto is designed to enable Members to discuss the value of IIDA Membership and provides a concrete answer to the oft-repeated question, “What do I get out of it?”

Jennifer Belk to Receive Carol A. Kueker Construction Education Visionary Award


Jennifer Belk, IIDA, IDEC, LEED AP, educator at Winthrop University, has been selected as the recipient of the 2013 Carol A. Kueker Construction Education Visionary Award. The distinction, bestowed by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Education Foundation, recognizes the honoree as an American educator with a passion for an dedication to construction education. Belk will be celebrated at the NAWIC Annual Meeting and Conference held Aug. 28-31 in Bellevue, Wash.

Foreign-Born US Designers Sought for Vilcek Prizes


The Vilcek Foundation has announced that it is seeking applicants for the 2014 Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise in Design. Applicants for the Vilcek Prizes must be naturalized citizens or permanent residents of the United States working in the fields of product, graphic, digital or social design, and be no more than 35 years of age as of Jan. 1, 2014.

The IIDA Oregon Chapter staged its annual Monte Carlo Masquerade fundraising event Thursday, June 20, at the Portland Art Museum. Newly inducted Chapter Board Members were celebrated, and in addition to raising spirits, the event raised more money than any previous fundraiser for the Chapter.


On Wednesday, June 19, the IIDA Illinois Chapter assembled for its Chapter Celebration Breakfast to celebrate the Chapter’s accomplishments for the year, and to acknowledge its outgoing and incoming Board of Directors and 2013 Chapter Partners.
